We get questions from bloggers all the time… One of the most frequent is “How do I back up my MySpace?”.  So being the web heads we are, we took a look at some documentation about a new plugin for Firefox titled ScrapBook.  We read, downloaded, installed, and used it hard. And, you know? This works for every Web 2.0 we tried!

ScrapBook is a good way to keep all that data you have on any number of sites organized with a local copy that your online backup can automatically archive for you. With one program! No installing plugins, jockeying around on the command line… It just saves it so you can recover if they go bad on you.

How you are wondering? Here’s how it works.

A First, go to the ScrapBook download page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/427). Just click the green Install Now button and then restart Firefox when it tells you to.

B Once Firefox has restarted, you’re ready to use ScrapBook.

C Click onto one of your social websites you’d like to save with ScrapBook. Once you’re there, on the menu, select Capture Page As.

D Now, with “Capture Page As”, you can pick the depth of links you’d like to save. This is a important! This is how you can automatically back up all the links on your page. With the depth set to zero, you wouldn’t automatically archive those extra pages. If it was set to 1, you’d be able to. However, if it was set to 2, you’d be able to click links on the second page and so on.

E After picking the options you want, click Capture. A copy is now saved! Now, go to the ScrapBook menu and click Show in Sidebar. The captured pages are listed in plain view.

Here’s what we have so far? You now have a local copy of all the content on your MySpace, etc. page. So if anything goes south, your covered. But like Billy Mays always says… “But Wait, there’s More”.

If you have a internet backup product like OPENRSM Cloudbackup on your computer just make sure that it’s configuration has your personal files selected for backup. This way all your computers essential files are backed up and your social website content is too. And Firefox runs on windows, Mac, and Linux all the same.  Not only will your computer have a full internet backup, but your social websites will be too.

Most people who are used to using the Internet on a moderately regular basis are very familiar with forums and message boards and how to use them.  These online communities let people get together to ask questions, give and receive answers, share stories, and forge relationships.  As a website owner, participating in online forums will allow you to get in touch with other Internet Marketers as well as with individuals who could potentially become your new customers.  For these reasons, forums can increase the volume of traffic your website receives. It is one good tool for traffic generation.

Since word of mouth advertising is an extremely good way to build up your business, do not be afraid to ask your friends on the forums to refer you to others.  Doing so will make your business internationally known.  Contacting other Internet Marketers on forums can also help you, as you may be able to get involved in some joint ventures.

Using forums to make new friendships, make others see you as an expert, and link readers back to your website will all help you increase the traffic to your site.

For Internet marketers, social bookmarking is an excellent way to drive free traffic to their websites. However, for each network you join, you must fill out a profile, write a description of your URL and finally submit your URL. Now, while this sounds ‘easy’, try doing this for 100 sites. It would end up taking you several days before you get through them all. But if you automate social bookmarking, you can submit as many sites as you need without going through this process.

How do you automate social bookmarking? To automate social bookmarking, you must use a special type of software known as a social bookmarking submitter. To use them, all you have to do is enter in the URL you would like to bookmark. The software will take care of the rest as it will automatically send the bookmarks, provided that you at least have an account opened with whatever network you’re trying to submit to.

Of course, be aware that not everyone thinks you should automate social bookmarking. If you use the software to tag too many URLs at one time, you might get flagged for spam. When this happens, your account is usually banned. And, if a network bans you based on your IP address, you may not be able to create a new one without using a completely different computer.

Yet, if you submit just a few URLs at a time, you probably won’t be on the radar at most social bookmarking networks. Just make sure that you’re not submitting too many URLs from the same site, or other users may still suspect that you’re trying to spam the network.

So, with that being said, how does a person get started with social bookmarking submitters? Their best bet is to search what’s available online. Keywords like “automate social bookmarking” or “social bookmarking submitter” should yield what you’re looking for. You may even find submitters that are free-of-charge.

In conclusion, if you don’t have time to manually submit your links to social bookmarking services, you could consider automating the process through a social bookmarking submitter. Just be aware that when you automate social bookmarking you do put your account at risk slightly, especially if you send too many URLs at once. So, be cautious if you do decide to use a submitter to automate social bookmarking. As long as you remember to do that, you should have a lot easier time promoting your websites.
